Core i5-430M Details

The Intel Core i5-430M represents a significant step in the evolution of mobile computing, marking a transition toward more capable and efficient processors for laptops. Released in January 2010, this processor is part of Intel's Arrandale architecture, which was designed to deliver improved performance and power efficiency over previous generations. As of early 2026, the Core i5-430M is considered a legacy device, having been out of production for over a decade, but it still holds relevance in understanding the progression of mobile CPU design.

Built on a 32 nm process and featuring a die area of 81 mm², the Core i5-430M integrates 382 million transistors into its design. It operates at a base frequency of 2.267 GHz, with a turbo frequency of 2.534 GHz, allowing it to adapt to workload demands. The processor includes two cores and supports simultaneous multithreading, effectively doubling the thread count to four. This enables the Core i5-430M to handle multitasking and parallel workloads more efficiently than its predecessors.

The Core i5-430M is packaged in a rPGA socket, specifically designed for mobile platforms, and uses Socket G1 for compatibility with laptops of that era. It supports DDR3 memory, with a maximum capacity and bandwidth that reflect the technological standards of its time. The processor’s TDP of 35 W provides a balance between performance and power consumption, making it suitable for mainstream laptops that required both efficiency and performance.

Integrated graphics are present on certain motherboards via chipset features, though the Core i5-430M itself does not include a dedicated GPU. This means that graphics performance is limited to basic tasks and light multimedia use. The processor supports a range of instruction sets, including MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, SSSE3, SSE4.1, and SSE4.2, ensuring compatibility with software from its era and beyond. Additionally, it supports Intel’s virtualization technologies, such as VT-x and VT-d, as well as Enhanced SpeedStep (EIST) for power management.

In benchmark testing, the Core i5-430M achieves an overall score of 4182, placing it at #1704 out of 2060 processors. Its single-core score is 4090, ranking #1685, while its multicore score stands at 4320, ranking #1685. This indicates that the processor performs reasonably well in single-threaded applications but lags behind modern CPUs in multicore performance. In comparison to other processors in the same score range, it competes with low-end mobile and desktop chips from the early 2010s, such as the Pentium G2020 and A6-7400K.

Given its age and performance characteristics, the Core i5-430M is best suited for basic computing tasks, such as web browsing, office applications, and light multimedia consumption. It is no longer viable for modern gaming or demanding productivity workloads. However, it remains a notable example of Intel’s efforts to enhance mobile performance during a pivotal period in computing history.
