Pentium G640T Details

The Intel Pentium G640T, launched in June 2012, stands as a budget-oriented desktop processor from Intel's Sandy Bridge era. While it was positioned as a cost-effective option for basic computing tasks, its performance today places it far behind modern processors. With a 2.4 GHz base clock and a 35 W TDP, the G640T is built on a 32 nm process and features 2 cores, 2 threads, and a 3 MB L3 cache. It uses the Socket 1155 platform and supports DDR3 memory via a dual-channel interface. Despite its age, the processor includes modern instruction sets such as AVX, SSE4.1, and SSE4.2, along with AES-NI encryption and virtualization support, which were notable at the time of release.

In terms of benchmarks, the G640T achieves an Overall Score of 4274, ranking #1557 out of 2060 CPUs, a Singlecore Score of 4235 (#1545), and a Multicore Score of 4333 (#1633). These results indicate that while the processor performs decently in single-threaded tasks—outperforming some low-power Atom and Celeron variants—it falls short in multi-threaded workloads, where it is outpaced by nearly every modern CPU. Its multicore performance is particularly weak compared to the top-tier processors listed in the top 50, which include high-end Ryzen Threadripper and Core i9 models scoring over 8,000.

The G640T’s integrated Intel HD Graphics (Sandy Bridge) provides basic visual output, supporting up to two displays, but it lacks the power for gaming or video editing. Its lack of simultaneous multithreading and locked clock multiplier limits overclocking potential, making it less appealing for enthusiasts. Given that this processor is over a decade old, it is no longer suitable for demanding applications, though it may still function in light office use or as a secondary system.

As of March 2026, the Pentium G640T is best suited for legacy systems or users requiring minimal processing power at low cost. While it was once a practical choice for entry-level desktops, it now serves as a reminder of how far CPU performance has advanced, with modern alternatives offering vastly superior efficiency, performance, and feature sets.
