Celeron N2920 Details

The Intel Celeron N2920, launched in December 2013, represents a late-era entry in Intel's Bay Trail-M mobile processor lineup, designed for low-power devices such as netbooks and entry-level tablets. As of early 2026, this processor is considered a legacy component, having been superseded by several generations of more capable and energy-efficient architectures. Despite its age, the N2920 remains relevant in niche scenarios where power consumption and cost are prioritized over raw performance.

Built on a 22 nm process, the Celeron N2920 features four cores based on the Bay Trail microarchitecture, operating at a base frequency of 1.86 GHz with a turbo frequency of 1.86 GHz. It supports a TDP of just 7.5 W, making it highly suitable for compact, fanless systems. The processor uses the FC-BGA1170 socket and supports DDR3L 1066 memory across two channels, with a maximum memory capacity of 8 GB and a peak bandwidth of 21.3 GB/s. Cache includes 512 KB of L2 cache per core, totaling 2 MB, and 53 KB of L1 cache, though no L3 cache is present.

Integrated into the chip is Intel's HD Graphics, which runs at a base frequency of 313 MHz and can boost to 844 MHz. This GPU supports up to two displays and provides basic multimedia and light graphics performance, adequate for web browsing, video playback, and simple productivity tasks. The N2920 does not support ECC memory or simultaneous multithreading, and its locked multiplier limits overclocking potential.

In terms of instruction set support, the processor includes a broad range of features such as MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, SSSE3, SSE4.1, SSE4.2, AVX2, AES-NI, and x86-64, though it notably lacks support for the newer SSE4 instruction set, which can hinder compatibility with some modern software and games. It also supports virtualization technologies like VT-x and VT-d, as well as Intel's Enhanced SpeedStep (EIST) and TXT.

Benchmark data reveals the N2920's performance profile: it achieves a single-core score of 3,456 (ranked #2027 of 2060), a multicore score of 4,319 (ranked #1693 of 2060), and an overall score of 3,801 (ranked #2015 of 2060). These results place it well below modern mainstream processors but in the same ballpark as other low-end mobile chips from the same era. In the top 50 overall list, the N2920 trails far behind leaders like the Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9995WX, which scores over 9,000, highlighting the vast performance gap between older and current-generation CPUs.

Overall, the Intel Celeron N2920 is best suited for basic computing tasks in low-power environments. Its low TDP and integrated graphics make it ideal for lightweight systems where performance demands are minimal. However, for users requiring modern applications, multitasking, or future-proofing, this processor is no longer a viable option in 2026.
