Celeron 3205U Details

Ranked #1812 of 2060 in overall performance, the Intel Celeron 3205U delivers a modest overall score of 4086, placing it firmly in the lower tier of modern processors. While its single-core performance of 3947 ranks slightly better at #1797, the multicore score of 4295 at #1770 reveals a processor optimized for light-duty tasks rather than demanding workloads. Launched in March 2015, this mobile processor is now over a decade old, and its capabilities reflect its era of design—targeting entry-level notebooks and low-power devices rather than performance computing.

Built on Intel's Broadwell-U architecture and fabricated on a 14 nm process, the Celeron 3205U features two cores and two threads, with a base clock of 1.5 GHz and a turbo frequency of 2.3 GHz. Despite its relatively high turbo boost, the lack of simultaneous multithreading and a locked multiplier limits its ability to scale under load. The processor supports dual-channel DDR3L and LPDDR3 memory up to 1600 MT/s, with a maximum bandwidth of 25.6 GB/s and a 15 W TDP, making it energy-efficient for thin and light systems.

Cache hierarchy includes 61 KiB of L1 cache, 244 KiB of L2 cache, and a modest 1.9 MiB of L3 cache. It integrates Intel HD Graphics with a base frequency of 100 MHz and a burst frequency of 800 MHz, capable of driving up to three displays. The integrated GPU lacks dedicated graphics memory, relying instead on system RAM with a maximum allocation of 2 GB.

The Celeron 3205U supports a range of Intel-specific technologies, including AES-NI for encryption, AVX2 for vectorized operations, and hardware virtualization features such as VT-x and VT-d. It also includes power-saving enhancements like EIST and Hyper-Threading, though the latter is not supported. The processor is packaged in a BGA1168 form factor, designed for integration into laptops and mobile devices.

In today’s context, as of March 2026, the Celeron 3205U is best suited for basic productivity tasks such as web browsing, document editing, and media playback. Its performance is outpaced by nearly every modern CPU, even in the mobile segment, and it falls well behind contemporary processors in the top 50 lists, which include high-end desktop and server chips like the Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9995WX and Core Ultra 9 285K. While it remains a functional option for legacy systems or secondary devices, it is no longer competitive in any performance-sensitive application.

The processor’s benchmark results place it in the same performance bracket as older dual-core Intel and AMD CPUs from the late 2000s and early 2010s, such as the Core 2 Duo P9500 and Athlon II X3 720. Its strongest attribute is efficiency, but its weak single- and multicore performance make it unsuitable for multitasking, content creation, or gaming. As of 2026, the Celeron 3205U serves as a reminder of how far computing performance has advanced, now relegated to niche use cases in low-power or retro systems.
