FX-7500 Details

The AMD FX-7500, launched in June 2014, stands as a mobile processor from the FX lineup built on the Kaveri architecture. While it may appear modest by today's standards, it was designed for budget-conscious users who needed integrated graphics without a discrete GPU. With a base clock of 2.4 GHz and a turbo frequency of 2.0 GHz, the FX-7500 operates on a 65 nm process node, manufactured by GlobalFoundries. It features four cores and four threads, with a locked multiplier that limits overclocking potential. The processor supports dual-channel DDR3L/DDR3L-RS memory at up to 1600 MT/s, delivering a maximum memory bandwidth of 25.6 GB/s. It is packaged in FC-BGA and fits into the LGA775 socket, though its official socket designation is FP3, indicating its mobile design. The TDP is rated at 105 W, which is relatively high for a mobile chip, suggesting thermal constraints in power-constrained systems.

Integrated graphics are provided by the Radeon R7 6CU GPU, which runs at a base frequency of 100 MHz and can burst to 800 MHz. This GPU supports up to three displays and is capable of handling basic multimedia and light gaming. Despite its age, the FX-7500 supports modern instruction sets such as AVX, AVX2, FMA3, AES-NI, and MMX, making it suitable for older software that leverages these features. Virtualization technologies like AMD-V and Intel VT-x are also supported, enabling efficient virtual machine operation. However, the lack of simultaneous multithreading and limited cache—2 MB of L2 and an unspecified L3—contributes to its modest performance in multi-threaded workloads.

In benchmark testing, the FX-7500 scores 4,078 overall, placing it at #1818 among 2060 processors. Its single-core performance is slightly better, scoring 3,948 and ranking #1795, while its multicore score of 4,272 lands at #1843. These results position the FX-7500 just behind several Intel and AMD processors from the same era, including the Core i3-3110M and the A4-3320M, both of which score marginally higher. In contrast, it trails behind more powerful chips like the Core i5-2520M and Celeron G460. The processor’s performance is most competitive with low-power mobile CPUs like the Celeron N2806 and Pentium T4200, which share similar score ranges.

When compared to modern processors, the FX-7500 is significantly outperformed. The top-ranked processor, the Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9995WX, scores over 9,000, more than double the FX-7500's overall score. Even in the single-core category, the Core Ultra 9 285K achieves nearly double the score of the FX-7500. In multicore performance, the gap widens further, with the top processor scoring over 12,000 compared to the FX-7500's 4,272. As of March 2026, the FX-7500 is best suited for legacy systems, basic office tasks, or embedded applications where integrated graphics and low cost are priorities over raw performance.

In conclusion, the AMD FX-7500 represents a transitional processor from the early 2010s, offering integrated graphics and support for modern instruction sets at a competitive price point for its time. However, its performance is now outdated, especially in single-threaded and multithreaded workloads. Its high TDP and lack of modern efficiency features make it unsuitable for contemporary computing needs. It remains relevant only in niche markets such as retro systems, educational labs, or low-cost embedded devices where cost and compatibility outweigh performance demands.
