Athlon II X3 435 Details

As of March 2026, the AMD Athlon II X3 435 remains a relic of the late 2000s, a three-core desktop processor launched in October 2009. Built on the Rana microarchitecture and fabricated on a 45 nm process, it was part of AMD's effort to deliver value-oriented performance during a period of intense competition with Intel. With a base clock of 2.4 GHz and a turbo frequency of 2.66 GHz, the Athlon II X3 435 operates at a modest 35 W TDP, making it one of the more power-efficient options in its era. Despite its age, the processor still holds relevance in niche retro computing scenarios or low-cost systems where integrated graphics are acceptable.

The Athlon II X3 435 features a total of three cores and two threads, with no support for simultaneous multithreading. It uses a dual-channel DDR3 memory interface capable of handling up to 1600 MHz memory speeds, with a maximum system memory capacity of 32 GB. The processor's cache hierarchy includes 512 KB of L2 cache per core, amounting to 1.5 MB total, and 122 MB of L1 cache. It connects to the system via a PCI Express 2.0 interface and uses the Socket AM3 platform, now long obsolete in modern builds.

Although the Athlon II X3 435 does not include integrated graphics, certain motherboards with compatible chipsets can provide basic display outputs through a shared graphics solution. This makes it suitable for systems where discrete GPU use is not intended. The processor supports a range of instruction sets including SSE, SSE2, SSE3, SSE4.1, SSE4.2, AES, x86-64, and AMD-V, ensuring compatibility with older operating systems and software.

In benchmark testing, the Athlon II X3 435 achieves a multicore score of 4325, placing it at #1674 out of 2060 processors, and a single-core score of 4208, ranking #1569. Its overall score is 4255, positioning it at #1584. These results place it just ahead of processors like the Pentium E6600 and behind the Phenom II X2 545, indicating that while it holds up reasonably well for its time, it is significantly outpaced by modern CPUs. In the broader context of today's top-tier processors, it falls far behind leaders like the Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9995WX, which scores over 12,000 in multicore tests.

Despite its outdated architecture and limited multi-threading capabilities, the Athlon II X3 435 still serves as a viable option for basic desktop computing, light office tasks, and retro gaming. Its low power consumption and modest performance make it ideal for budget systems or embedded applications where advanced processing power is unnecessary. However, for any modern computing demands, including content creation or gaming, it is clearly obsolete and should not be considered a serious contender in today's market.
