Athlon 5350 Details

The AMD Athlon 5350, launched in April 2014, stands as a budget-friendly desktop processor designed for basic computing tasks and light multimedia use. While now over a decade old, it remains notable for its integration of AMD's Kabini architecture and the inclusion of a modest but functional Radeon R3 128CU integrated graphics solution. With a 28 nm manufacturing process and a 25 W TDP, the Athlon 5350 emphasizes energy efficiency, making it suitable for low-power systems or compact builds where power consumption and thermal output are concerns.

Featuring four cores and four threads, the processor operates at a base frequency of 2.05 GHz with a locked multiplier, limiting overclocking potential. It supports DDR3 memory at a rated speed of 1600 MT/s via a single-channel memory bus, delivering a memory bandwidth of 12.8 GB/s. The chip includes 2 MB of L2 cache, while L1 cache is listed at 0.061 MiB per core. The processor connects to the system via a PCIe Gen 2 interface with 8 lanes, and it uses the Socket AM1 platform, which was common for entry-level desktop systems of its era.

Performance-wise, the Athlon 5350 holds an overall score of 4060, ranking #1838 out of 2060 processors in the Passmark database. Its single-core score of 3877 places it at #1842, and the multicore score of 4334 positions it at #1628. These results indicate that the Athlon 5350 is competitive with several mid-2010-era dual-core and lower-end quad-core CPUs but falls well behind modern processors. It is slightly faster than some older models like the A4-7210 and Pentium G640T, but slower than the Core i3-5010U and Phenom II X2 545, which are more recent or higher-performing alternatives.

The processor supports a range of AMD and Intel instruction sets, including AVX, SSE4.1, SSE4.2, and AMD-V, enabling virtualization and enhanced multimedia performance. However, its lack of simultaneous multithreading and limited cache hierarchy restrict its performance in multi-threaded applications. The integrated Radeon R3 GPU, while not powerful enough for modern gaming, provides basic graphics support for office applications and HD video playback.

As of March 2026, the Athlon 5350 is best suited for legacy systems, embedded applications, or users requiring a low-cost, energy-efficient CPU for non-demanding tasks. It is not competitive with current-generation processors, whose scores range from 7,000 to over 12,000 in multicore performance. Nonetheless, it represents a cost-effective option for basic computing needs in environments where high performance is not a priority.
