A4-3420 Details

The AMD A4-3420, launched in December 2011, is a desktop processor built on the Llano architecture and designed for budget-oriented systems. With a base clock of 2.8 GHz and a 65 W TDP, it delivers moderate performance for its time, particularly in integrated graphics workloads. Though it is now over a decade old, the A4-3420 remains notable for its combination of dual-core processing and integrated Radeon HD 6410D graphics, making it a viable option for basic computing and media playback in low-power environments.

The processor features a 32 nm manufacturing process and operates on the Socket FM1 platform, which was common for AMD’s mainstream desktop lineup during the early 2010s. It includes 2 cores and 2 threads, with no simultaneous multithreading support, and relies on a locked clock multiplier, limiting overclocking potential. The L2 cache totals 1.0 MiB, split as 512 KB per core, while L1 cache totals 0.122 MiB. It supports DDR3 memory at up to 1866 MT/s in dual-channel mode, offering a memory bandwidth of 29.9 GB/s.

Integrated into the A4-3420 is the Radeon HD 6410D GPU, which features 128 stream processors and can reach a maximum frequency of 600 MHz. It supports up to two display outputs, making it suitable for dual-monitor setups in office or home environments. The processor also supports essential technologies such as AMD-V for hardware virtualization, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, SSE4a, and 3DNow!, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of software from its era.

In benchmark testing, the A4-3420 achieves an Overall Score of 4212, placing it at #1659 out of 2060 processors in the database. Its Singlecore Score is 4144 (#1636), while the Multicore Score is 4313 (#1715). These results indicate that the A4-3420 performs comparably to mid-range mobile processors from the same period, such as the Core i5-2415M and Core i7-2640M, but trails significantly behind modern CPUs. It falls well below the top-tier processors in the 2026 rankings, with the highest-scoring CPU, the Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9995WX, achieving a score over 9,000.

As of March 2026, the A4-3420 is best suited for legacy systems, light office use, or as a secondary processor in older machines. Its integrated graphics and low power consumption make it useful in compact or energy-efficient builds, though it lacks the performance and features required for modern gaming, content creation, or heavy multitasking. While it holds historical significance as part of AMD’s early unified CPU-GPU design, its performance is now largely obsolete in the current market.
