Athlon 5150 Details

Built on AMD's Kabini microarchitecture at a 28 nm process node, the Athlon 5150 is a desktop processor that was launched in April 2014. Designed for budget-oriented systems, it remains relevant in niche applications despite its age, as of March 2026. Manufactured by GlobalFoundries, the chip features a 107 mm² die and operates at a base frequency of 1.6 GHz with a 100 MHz base clock and a 16x multiplier. The processor is built with four cores and four threads, with no support for simultaneous multithreading, and includes 0.061 MiB of L1 cache and 1.907 MiB of L2 cache. It is packaged in a µOPGA-721 socket with a 25 W TDP, making it energy-efficient for low-power desktops.

The Athlon 5150 integrates a Radeon R3 128CU GPU, which supports modern features like hardware virtualization (AMD-V), ECC memory, and a range of instruction sets including AVX, AES, SSE4.1, and SSE4.2. It supports DDR3 memory at a rated speed of 1600 MT/s via a single-channel interface and connects to the system using PCIe 2.0 with eight lanes. The locked multiplier limits overclocking potential, but the chip's low power draw and integrated graphics make it suitable for entry-level computing and media playback.

In benchmark testing, the Athlon 5150 achieves an overall score of 3991, ranking #1897 out of 2060 processors. Its single-core performance scores 3777, placing it at #1903, while its multicore score of 4313 lands at #1715. These results indicate that the processor is competitive with older dual-core and low-end quad-core CPUs, such as the Core i5-2415M and Celeron 2957U, but falls behind newer mainstream and high-performance chips. The performance gap to top-tier processors is substantial, with the highest-scoring CPUs in the top 50 exceeding 12,000 in multicore performance.

The Athlon 5150 is best suited for basic productivity tasks, light multimedia use, and systems where integrated graphics and low power consumption are priorities. While it is outdated compared to modern processors, its low cost and energy efficiency make it a viable option in embedded or secondary computing environments. Its position in the rankings suggests that it is not intended for demanding applications, but rather for users who need a functional, low-cost solution without the need for high performance.
