FX-8800P Details

The AMD FX-8800P represents a niche entry in AMD's mobile processor lineup, designed for low-power systems requiring integrated graphics and moderate performance. Released in June 2015 as part of the Carrizo architecture family, this processor is now over a decade old, placing it firmly in the legacy category by modern standards. Despite its age, it remains relevant for budget systems, embedded applications, or devices where power efficiency and integrated graphics are prioritized over raw computing power. Built on a 28 nm process by GlobalFoundries, the FX-8800P features a compact 250 mm² die and consumes just 15 W, making it ideal for ultra-mobile or fanless designs.

This mobile processor is based on the Carrizo microarchitecture and uses the Socket FP4 interface, with a 4-core, 4-thread configuration and a base clock of 2.1 GHz. It supports a maximum turbo frequency of 3.4 GHz, though the actual boost behavior depends on workload and thermal conditions. The chip includes 1 MB of L2 cache and lacks L3 cache, a limitation that impacts performance in memory-intensive applications. It supports DDR3 memory at up to 2133 MT/s over a dual-channel interface, with a memory bandwidth of 34.1 GB/s. Connectivity is handled via PCIe Gen 3 with 8 lanes directly from the CPU, enabling support for high-speed peripherals.

Integrated into the FX-8800P is the Radeon R7 8CU graphics core, which provides basic GPU performance for light gaming and multimedia tasks. It supports up to three displays and offers limited compute performance, making it suitable for general productivity and light content creation. The processor supports a range of instruction sets, including AVX, AVX2, SSE, and AMD-V, enabling efficient virtualization and enhanced performance in scientific and engineering applications. It also supports AES encryption, BMI, and FMA instructions, adding versatility for security and computational workloads.

In benchmark testing, the FX-8800P achieves an Overall Score of 4424, placing it at #1365 of 2060 processors in the Passmark database. Its Singlecore Score of 4420 ranks it #1372, while its Multicore Score of 4431 lands at #1379. These results indicate that the CPU performs similarly to mid-range mobile processors from the mid-2010s, such as the Intel Core i5-4300U and Pentium 4417U. It trails behind modern desktop and mobile processors, with even low-end current chips like the Ryzen 3 2200U achieving higher scores. In comparison to the top 50 CPUs, the FX-8800P is significantly behind leaders like the Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9995WX, which scores over 9,000 in the same benchmarks.

As of March 2026, the FX-8800P is no longer suitable for high-performance computing, gaming, or modern productivity workloads. However, it remains a viable option for legacy systems, embedded devices, or low-cost notebooks where integrated graphics and energy efficiency are critical. Its design reflects the transition period between older x86 architectures and the more advanced Zen-based processors that followed, highlighting the evolution of mobile computing over the past decade.
