A6-9500 Details

Built on AMD's Bristol Ridge architecture at 45 nm, the A6-9500 is a desktop processor that was launched in September 2016. While the design is now over seven years old, it remains relevant in entry-level systems due to its integrated graphics and low power consumption. The processor is designed for the desktop market segment and features a 45 W TDP, making it suitable for compact builds and energy-efficient setups. It operates on a dual-channel DDR3 memory interface with a maximum rated speed of 2400 MT/s and supports up to 8 GB of memory. The A6-9500 is packaged in a µPGA socket with a PGA988 footprint and uses the AM4 socket, allowing it to be used in a range of mainstream motherboards from its generation.

The A6-9500 includes four cores and runs at a base frequency of 1.86 GHz, with a turbo frequency of 3.2 GHz. It features 1 MB of L2 cache and is fabricated using a 45 nm process node, with a die area of 246 mm² and 3.1 billion transistors. The processor supports 64-bit computing and includes a broad range of instruction sets, such as SSE, AVX, AVX2, BMI1, BMI2, FMA3, AES, and AMD-V virtualization. It also supports hardware virtualization, which improves performance in virtual machine environments, and includes technologies like Enhanced SpeedStep and Secure Key.

Integrated into the A6-9500 is the Radeon R5 graphics solution, which operates at a base frequency of 850 MHz and can burst up to 1.1 GHz. The GPU supports up to two displays and is capable of handling light gaming and multimedia tasks. While not designed for high-end graphics, it provides sufficient performance for basic use cases such as web browsing, video playback, and office applications.

In benchmark testing, the A6-9500 achieves an overall score of 4523, placing it at #1266 out of 2060 processors. Its single-core score is 4670, ranking #1166, and its multicore score is 4302, placing it at #1747. These results indicate that while the processor is capable in single-threaded workloads, it lags significantly in multicore performance compared to modern CPUs. It performs on par with older dual-core and low-power processors like the Celeron J1900 and Athlon 64 X2 5400+, but falls behind in both single and multicore performance compared to more recent quad-core CPUs.

As of March 2026, the A6-9500 is best suited for budget systems, light productivity tasks, and basic multimedia use. Its integrated graphics and low power draw make it ideal for entry-level desktops and small form-factor builds. While it lacks the performance of modern processors, its longevity and compatibility with AM4 motherboards ensure it remains a viable option for users seeking a simple, low-cost computing solution.
