Xeon W-1390P Details

Built on Intel's Rocket Lake-S architecture and manufactured on a 14 nm process, the Xeon W-1390P is a server and workstation processor designed for demanding professional workloads. Launched in May 2021, this CPU represents a transitional model in Intel’s Xeon W lineup, bridging older Core i9-based designs with newer generations. Despite being over three years old as of early 2026, the W-1390P remains relevant for users requiring high single-threaded performance and ECC memory support in a desktop-compatible form factor.

The Xeon W-1390P features 8 cores and 16 threads, enabled by Intel's Hyper-Threading technology, which allows each core to handle two threads simultaneously. It operates at a base frequency of 3.5 GHz and can boost up to 5.3 GHz, depending on the workload and thermal conditions. This makes it particularly competitive in single-threaded applications. The processor is packaged in the FC-LGA1200 socket and has a TDP of 125 W, requiring adequate cooling solutions for sustained performance.

In terms of memory, the Xeon W-1390P supports dual-channel DDR4 memory up to 3200 MT/s and includes ECC memory support, a critical feature for server and workstation environments where data integrity is paramount. It also supports PCIe 4.0 with 20 lanes directly from the CPU, providing ample bandwidth for high-speed storage and expansion cards. The cache hierarchy includes 0.076 MiB of L1 cache, 0.488 MiB of L2 cache, and a substantial 15.259 MiB of L3 cache, helping to reduce latency in data-intensive tasks.

Integrated graphics are provided via Intel UHD Graphics P750, which includes 32 execution units and supports up to three displays. While not intended for gaming or heavy GPU workloads, this integrated solution enables basic display output without a discrete GPU, adding flexibility for system builders. The processor supports a wide range of instruction sets, including AVX, AVX2, AVX-512, and Intel's virtualization technologies such as VT-x and VT-d, enabling efficient virtual machine performance and secure computing environments.

Benchmark results place the Xeon W-1390P at an overall score of 6432, ranking it #129 among 2060 processors. Its single-core score of 6744 positions it at #82, indicating strong performance in applications that benefit from high clock speeds and efficient single-threaded execution. In multicore performance, the score of 5964 places it at #240, showing that while it holds its own in multi-threaded workloads, it is outpaced by newer multi-core and high-TDP processors. This suggests that its strength lies in workloads where single-core performance is critical, such as content creation, CAD, and software development.

When compared to its peers, the W-1390P competes closely with high-end desktop processors like the Ryzen 7 5800XT and the Core i9-10900X, but falls behind in multicore performance relative to modern workstation CPUs like the Xeon w7-2475X. Its position in the top 50 overall score list is modest, but its single-core prowess keeps it competitive in performance-sensitive scenarios. As of March 2026, the Xeon W-1390P remains a solid option for professionals who need a balance of high frequency, ECC memory, and integrated graphics in a workstation environment, though it is no longer at the cutting edge of performance.
