Ryzen Z1 Details

As of March 2026, the AMD Ryzen Z1 remains a compelling mobile processor for users prioritizing performance per watt in thin-and-light systems. Launched in May 2023, this device has aged well, particularly in the context of modern 4 nm mobile processors, where its 15 W TDP continues to deliver strong efficiency. Built on AMD’s Zen 4 (Phoenix) architecture, the Ryzen Z1 is designed for the mobile segment and features a compact 137 mm² die fabricated by TSMC using a 4 nm process. It integrates a Radeon 740M GPU, which, while not a high-end discrete solution, provides capable graphics performance for everyday tasks and light gaming. The processor is packaged in the FP8 socket, a proprietary design for AMD's mobile platforms.

The Ryzen Z1 features six cores and 12 threads thanks to Simultaneous Multithreading (SMT), with a base clock of 3.2 GHz and a turbo frequency reaching 4.9 GHz. This boost capability allows the processor to scale effectively under variable workloads, making it suitable for both productivity and content creation tasks. It supports up to 5600 MT/s DDR5 memory across a dual-channel interface, delivering 89.6 GB/s memory bandwidth. The chip includes 16 MB of L3 cache, 0.954 MiB of L2 cache, and 0.061 MiB of L1 cache, which together support fast data access and reduce latency in memory-intensive applications.

In benchmark testing, the Ryzen Z1 earns a Singlecore Score of 6767, ranking it #80 among 2060 processors, placing it just behind high-end desktop chips like the Core Ultra 9 185H and Ryzen 9 5900X. Its Multicore Score of 5618 ranks #347 of 2060, indicating strong multi-threaded performance that outpaces many desktop CPUs, including the Core i7-9800X and Xeon Gold 6132. Overall, it achieves a score of 6307, positioning it #146 in the broader ranking. These results highlight that the Ryzen Z1 is particularly effective in multi-threaded environments, where its ability to scale across 12 threads provides a significant advantage over lower-threaded competitors.

The processor supports a broad range of modern technologies, including AVX, AVX2, AVX-512, AES, and AMD-V virtualization, enabling efficient performance in compute-heavy applications such as video encoding, machine learning, and virtualization. ECC memory support further enhances reliability, making the Ryzen Z1 suitable for professional and mission-critical use cases. While its 4.9 GHz turbo frequency is impressive, it is constrained by the 15 W TDP, which limits sustained performance under prolonged loads. Nevertheless, its efficiency and strong single-core performance make it ideal for portable workstations and high-performance laptops where thermal and power constraints are critical.

In conclusion, the Ryzen Z1 delivers a balanced mix of high clock speeds, efficient power usage, and robust multitasking capabilities. It is best suited for mobile professionals, content creators, and power users who demand strong performance in a compact, energy-efficient form factor. While it falls short of top-tier desktop processors in raw performance, its positioning in the top 150 overall and top 100 single-core ranks reflects its success as a mobile powerhouse. As of 2026, it remains a relevant and competitive choice in the mobile processor landscape.
