Xeon W-2145 Details

Designed for demanding workstation environments, the Intel Xeon W-2145 is a high-performance processor built for professionals in fields such as video editing, 3D rendering, and scientific computing. Launched in August 2017, this CPU is based on Intel's Skylake-W microarchitecture and is manufactured on a 14 nm process node. While it is now considered an older device by modern standards, its robust feature set and strong multi-threaded performance continue to make it relevant in certain professional workloads.

The Xeon W-2145 features eight cores and 16 threads thanks to Intel Hyper-Threading technology, allowing it to handle complex, multi-threaded applications efficiently. It operates at a base frequency of 3.7 GHz and can boost up to 4.5 GHz when conditions permit, delivering strong single-threaded performance. The processor includes a total of 11 MB of L3 cache, with an additional 0.5 MB of L1 cache and 8 MB of L2 cache, ensuring fast access to frequently used data. It supports quad-channel DDR4-2666 memory with up to 524 GB of system memory, and supports ECC memory for enhanced data integrity.

With a TDP of 140 W, the Xeon W-2145 requires adequate cooling and is designed for use in high-end desktops and workstations with robust thermal solutions. It uses the FCLGA-2066 socket and supports PCIe 3.0 with up to 48 lanes directly from the CPU, enabling high-bandwidth connections to storage and expansion cards. The processor lacks integrated graphics, so a discrete GPU is required for display output. It includes a comprehensive set of features, including AVX, AVX2, AVX-512, Intel vPro, VT-x, VT-d, and Intel Speed Shift, enhancing virtualization, security, and power efficiency.

In benchmark testing, the Xeon W-2145 achieves an overall score of 5718, ranking #352 out of 2060 processors. Its single-core score is 5838, placing it at #338, while its multicore score reaches 5538, ranking #384. These results show that the processor performs well in both single-threaded and multi-threaded tasks, though it is outpaced by modern high-end CPUs. In the top 50 multicore list, it trails behind newer processors like the Ryzen Threadripper 9980X and Xeon W-3175X, but still holds its own against older generation workstations.

As of March 2026, the Xeon W-2145 remains a capable choice for users who prioritize reliability, ECC memory support, and multi-threaded performance in professional applications. While it is no longer at the forefront of consumer or workstation performance, its strong cache hierarchy, support for advanced instruction sets, and robust enterprise features ensure it remains a viable option in legacy or budget-conscious professional environments.
