Xeon E3-1245 v6 Details

For users seeking a reliable, multi-threaded server processor with integrated graphics and ECC memory support, the Intel Xeon E3-1245 v6 offers a balanced mix of performance and enterprise features. Released in 2017, this processor is now over eight years old, placing it in the older segment of the market. While it no longer competes with modern high-end CPUs, it remains a capable option for light server workloads, virtualization, and entry-level workstations where integrated graphics and memory reliability are priorities.

Built on Intel’s Kaby Lake microarchitecture at a 14 nm process node, the Xeon E3-1245 v6 features four cores and eight threads, thanks to Hyper-Threading. It operates at a base frequency of 3.7 GHz and can boost up to 4.1 GHz on a single core. The chip includes 8 MiB of L3 cache and 1 MiB of L2 cache, with 0.125 MiB of L1 cache per core, supporting efficient data access. It uses the LGA-1151 socket and is designed for the Sunrise Point and Union Point chipsets, making it compatible with a range of server and workstation motherboards from that era.

The processor supports dual-channel DDR4-2400 and DDR3L-1866 memory, with a maximum capacity of 64 GB and a memory bandwidth of 35.76 GiB/s. It also supports ECC memory, a critical feature for server environments where data integrity is essential. With a TDP of 73 W, the Xeon E3-1245 v6 strikes a reasonable balance between power efficiency and performance. It also includes Intel’s HD Graphics P630, which features 24 execution units and a base frequency of 350 MHz, capable of reaching up to 1.15 GHz under boost. This integrated GPU supports up to three displays and can handle basic graphical tasks, reducing the need for a discrete graphics card in non-intensive environments.

In benchmark testing, the Xeon E3-1245 v6 achieves a Passmark Overall Score of 5484, ranking #495 out of 2060 processors. Its single-core score is 5895, placing it #312 in the single-core rankings, while its multicore score stands at 4868, ranking #770. This indicates that the processor performs well in single-threaded applications but lags behind modern multi-core chips in heavily threaded workloads. Compared to its immediate competitors, it slightly outperforms the Xeon E3-1275 v6 and the Core i3-9100F, but falls short of newer Ryzen and Intel Core series CPUs.

The Xeon E3-1245 v6 supports a wide range of advanced features, including Intel VT-x and VT-d virtualization, Intel Turbo Boost 2.0, Enhanced SpeedStep Technology, and Intel Secure Key. It also includes AES-NI, AVX-2, and other instruction set extensions, making it suitable for encryption, compression, and scientific computing tasks. Despite its age, the processor remains relevant in legacy server environments, especially where ECC memory, virtualization, and integrated graphics are required.

As of March 2026, the Xeon E3-1245 v6 is best suited for small-scale server deployments, light virtualization, media transcoding, or as a low-power workstation CPU. It is not ideal for gaming or modern content creation, where newer processors offer superior performance. However, for budget-conscious users needing a stable, feature-rich server CPU, the E3-1245 v6 remains a viable, albeit outdated, option.
