Pentium Gold G7400 Details

Built on Intel's Alder Lake-S architecture and fabricated on a 10 nm process, the Pentium Gold G7400 is a desktop processor launched in January 2022. Though now several years old, it remains relevant in budget and mainstream computing due to its efficient design and support for modern features. The processor is designed for the Socket 1700 platform and pairs with chipsets such as Z690, H670, B660, and H610, making it compatible with a wide range of motherboards from the 600 and 700 series. With a base clock of 3.7 GHz and a locked multiplier, the G7400 delivers consistent performance without the potential for overclocking, which limits its appeal to enthusiasts but suits stable, low-maintenance systems.

The G7400 features two cores and four threads thanks to Intel's Hyper-Threading technology, enabling efficient multitasking in everyday computing and light productivity workloads. It includes 0.076 MiB of L1 cache, 1.192 MiB of L2 cache, and a 5.722 MiB L3 cache, which helps maintain low-latency access to frequently used data. The processor operates at a TDP of 46 W, making it energy-efficient for a mainstream desktop CPU. It supports both DDR4 and DDR5 memory via a dual-channel memory bus, offering flexibility in memory configuration. Connectivity is provided through PCIe 5.0, enabling faster data transfer for modern storage and expansion cards.

Integrated graphics are handled by the UHD Graphics 710, which features 32 execution units and can reach a maximum frequency of 1.45 GHz. This GPU supports up to three displays and is suitable for basic multimedia tasks, light gaming, and office applications, eliminating the need for a discrete graphics card in entry-level systems. The processor also includes support for a wide range of instruction sets, including AVX, AVX2, SSE, and AES-NI, enhancing performance in encryption, multimedia, and scientific computing. Virtualization technologies such as Intel VT-x and VT-d are included, making the G7400 suitable for virtual machine environments.

In benchmark testing, the Pentium Gold G7400 achieves an Overall Score of 5691, ranking #370 of 2060 processors, a Singlecore Score of 6250 (#187 of 2060), and a Multicore Score of 4852 (#783 of 2060). These results place it among mid-tier desktop processors, competing closely with older mainstream and entry-level CPUs such as the Core i7-6700T and Ryzen 5 2600H. While its single-core performance is strong relative to its price point, its multicore score reflects its two-core design, which limits its ability to handle highly parallel workloads. The processor is significantly outperformed by modern high-end CPUs like the Core Ultra 9 285K and Ryzen 9 9950X3D, but remains competitive in its segment.

As of March 2026, the Pentium Gold G7400 is best suited for budget-conscious users, office workstations, media centers, and light productivity tasks. It is ideal for systems where integrated graphics suffice and where cost efficiency and power consumption are priorities. While not a choice for gaming or content creation, it offers reliable performance for general computing and is a solid option in entry-level and value-oriented builds.
