Core i5-4670K Details

Ranked #654 of 2060 in overall performance, the Intel Core i5-4670K offers a compelling balance of single-core efficiency and modest multicore throughput, though it is now firmly positioned as a legacy part. Released in 2013 as part of Intel’s 4th generation Core lineup, the i5-4670K is built on a 22 nm process and features a quad-core, four-thread design with a base clock of 3.4 GHz and a turbo boost up to 3.8 GHz. Despite its age, it remains relevant for light productivity, casual gaming, and system responsiveness in older platforms.

The processor operates on the FCLGA1150 socket and supports up to 32 GB of DDR3-1333/1600 memory across two channels, with a maximum memory bandwidth of 25.6 GB/s. Its 84 W TDP reflects a relatively high power draw for a quad-core design, which is typical of early Haswell-era CPUs. While it lacks ECC memory support and does not offer integrated graphics performance beyond basic display output, it does include Intel’s HD Graphics 4600, which supports up to three displays and features a base frequency of 350 MHz with a burst frequency of 1.2 GHz.

In benchmark testing, the i5-4670K achieves a single-core score of 5479, placing it at #566 in the single-core rankings—just behind higher-end mobile and desktop processors such as the Core i7-9750H and Ryzen 7 1700. Its multicore performance, however, lags more noticeably, scoring 4908 and ranking #716, indicating that while it performs well in single-threaded workloads, its lack of modern architectural features and core count limits its competitiveness in multi-threaded environments.

The processor supports a range of advanced technologies, including AES-NI for encryption, SSE4.1/4.2 for multimedia acceleration, and Intel’s VT-x and VT-d virtualization extensions. It also includes Hyper-Threading, though in this case it is disabled, limiting it to four threads despite having four cores. While it does not support DDR4 or PCIe 3.0 at full bandwidth, it does support up to 16 PCIe lanes, allowing for flexible expansion in compatible systems.

As of March 2026, the Core i5-4670K is best suited for budget builds, retro computing, or systems where upgrading the motherboard and CPU is not feasible. It competes with modern low-end processors such as the Core i3-8100 and Ryzen 3 PRO 2200G, but is outperformed by nearly all current-generation CPUs. Still, its strong single-core performance makes it a viable option for legacy software, office applications, and entry-level content creation in systems that support it.
