Atom D425 Details

The Intel Atom D425 is designed for users seeking low-power mobile computing with integrated graphics, particularly in embedded systems, netbooks, and lightweight devices where power efficiency is prioritized over raw performance. Launched in June 2010, this processor is now over 13 years old, placing it firmly in the legacy category, and reflects the early era of Intel’s Atom lineup aimed at ultra-portable and cost-sensitive platforms.

Built on the 45 nm process and based on the Pineview microarchitecture, the Atom D425 features a single core with Hyper-Threading, enabling it to handle two threads simultaneously. It operates at a base frequency of 1.834 GHz with a locked multiplier, limiting overclocking potential. The processor includes 512 KB of L2 cache and supports DDR2 and DDR3 memory types, though it lacks support for modern instruction sets like SSE4, which impacts its ability to run contemporary software efficiently.

Despite its age, the D425 offers a TDP of just 10 W, making it highly energy-efficient for its time and suitable for fanless or low-thermal designs. It is packaged in a BGA 437 form factor, which is soldered directly onto the motherboard, meaning it is not user-upgradeable. Integrated graphics are provided via the GMA 3150, which supports basic video playback and 2D tasks but is inadequate for modern gaming or GPU-intensive applications.

In benchmark testing, the Atom D425 achieves an overall score of 3845, ranking #1997 out of 2060 processors, with a single-core score of 3584 (#1982) and a multicore score of 4237 (#1944). These results place it behind a wide range of more modern and powerful processors, including recent Celeron and Athlon models, as well as other Atom variants. Its performance is comparable to early-generation mobile processors like the Core 2 Duo T6400 and Sempron 2500+, but significantly behind today’s mainstream and high-end CPUs.

As of March 2026, the Atom D425 remains relevant only in niche scenarios such as legacy system maintenance, industrial automation, or low-cost point-of-sale terminals. It is not suitable for general-purpose computing, multimedia editing, or gaming. While it represents a significant step in Intel’s push toward energy-efficient mobile computing, its age and limited capabilities make it obsolete in today’s performance landscape.
