A6-6400K Details

As of March 2026, the AMD A6-6400K remains a relic of the early 2010s, a desktop processor launched in June 2013 as part of AMD's Richland lineup. Designed for mainstream users seeking affordable integrated graphics, the A6-6400K was built on the 32 nm process node, using the Richland architecture and a Socket FM2 interface. While its 65 W TDP was typical for the era, the chip's performance now places it far behind modern processors, with its benchmark results reflecting its age. The A6-6400K features a dual-core design with four threads, a base clock of 1.1 GHz, and a maximum turbo frequency of 2.6 GHz, making it suitable for light office tasks and basic multimedia playback but inadequate for demanding applications.

The processor integrates the Radeon HD 8470D graphics solution, which operates at a base frequency of 200 MHz and can burst up to 1.1 GHz. It supports up to three displays and pairs with DDR3L/LPDDR3 memory, with a dual-channel interface capable of reaching 1866 MT/s. Despite its relatively modest memory bandwidth of 25.6 GB/s, the A6-6400K was designed for cost-effective systems where discrete graphics were unnecessary. It supports a range of technologies including AVX, SSE4.1, and AES-NI, and includes AMD-V virtualization for improved performance in virtualized environments.

In benchmark testing, the A6-6400K scores 4289 in the Overall Score, placing it at #1539 out of 2060 processors. Its single-core performance, measured at 4323, ranks it #1470, while its multicore score of 4237 places it at #1944. While it performs slightly better than some older dual-core Intel processors like the Core 2 Duo T6400, it falls well behind modern low-power CPUs and even several mid-range processors from the past decade. The A6-6400K's strongest attribute is its single-core performance, which still outperforms many older mobile and embedded chips, but its multicore efficiency is notably weaker, limiting its utility in multi-threaded workloads.

The A6-6400K is not a competitive option in today's computing landscape, where even budget processors from the last five years offer superior performance. Its low power consumption and integrated graphics make it suitable only for legacy systems or as a replacement in older machines where basic functionality is sufficient. As a result, the A6-6400K serves as a historical artifact of AMD's efforts to balance performance and affordability in the mid-2010s, but it is no longer viable for mainstream use.
