Xeon E-2286M Details

Built on Intel's Coffee Lake architecture and manufactured on a 14 nm process, the Xeon E-2286M is a server-grade processor designed for workstation and entry-level server environments. Released in May 2019, the chip is now over four years old, placing it in the category of legacy parts, though it still holds relevance in systems where integrated graphics and ECC memory support are required. The processor features 8 cores and 16 threads, enabled by Intel's Hyper-Threading technology, and operates at a base frequency of 2.4 GHz with a turbo boost up to 5.0 GHz, offering strong single-core performance despite its age.

The Xeon E-2286M is equipped with a robust cache hierarchy, including 0.25 MiB of L1 cache per core, 2 MiB of L2 cache, and a large 16 MiB L3 cache shared across all cores. It supports dual-channel DDR4-2666 and LPDDR3-2133 memory, with a maximum capacity of 128 GiB and a memory bandwidth of up to 39.74 GiB/s. The processor is packaged in a BGA 1440 socket and has a standard TDP of 45 W, with a downclocked variant at 35 W for improved power efficiency. It is built with a 174 mm² die and supports ECC memory, making it suitable for enterprise and data-critical applications.

Integrated into the Xeon E-2286M is Intel's UHD Graphics P630, featuring 24 execution units and a base frequency of 350 MHz, capable of boosting up to 1.25 GHz. This GPU supports up to three display outputs and provides basic graphics performance, allowing for use in systems without discrete graphics. The processor also includes a wide range of instruction set extensions, including AVX, AVX2, AES-NI, and Intel’s virtualization technologies such as VT-x and VT-d, which enhance security and performance in virtualized environments.

In benchmark testing, the Xeon E-2286M achieves an overall score of 5710, ranking #357 out of 2060 processors, with a single-core score of 5963 (#283) and a multicore score of 5330 (#455). While its single-core performance is competitive, placing it ahead of many high-end desktop processors, its multicore performance is more modest, reflecting its design focus on efficiency and stability rather than raw throughput. The processor outperforms several modern mobile and desktop chips in single-threaded workloads, such as the Ryzen 7 5800H and Ryzen 3 PRO 5475U, but trails behind contemporary server and high-end desktop CPUs in multi-threaded performance.

As of March 2026, the Xeon E-2286M is best suited for legacy systems, embedded workstations, or environments requiring ECC memory and integrated graphics without the need for cutting-edge performance. Its strong single-core capabilities make it suitable for applications that rely heavily on thread efficiency, while its integrated GPU and virtualization features provide a versatile platform for light to moderate workloads. However, it is no longer a competitive option in the current market for high-performance computing or modern gaming.
