A10-6790K Details

As of March 2026, the AMD A10-6790K remains a relic from a bygone era of desktop computing, having been released in October 2013. Despite its age, the processor continues to hold a modest position in the broader performance landscape, reflecting its role as a mid-range integrated solution during the Richland generation. The A10-6790K is built on AMD's Richland architecture, fabricated at GlobalFoundries using a 22 nm process node. It features a dual-core design with a base clock of 3.3 GHz and a turbo frequency of 3.2 GHz, though the effective performance is constrained by the lack of simultaneous multithreading and a relatively low 53 W TDP. The chip integrates 4 MB of L2 cache, 0.122 MiB of L1 cache, and 0.954 MiB of L2 cache, supporting dual-channel DDR3 memory up to 1866 MT/s with a maximum capacity of 32 GB. The processor uses the FCLGA1150 socket, which was a transitional interface before AMD's adoption of AM4 and later AM5.

The A10-6790K’s integrated graphics, the Radeon HD 8670D, operate at a base frequency of 350 MHz with a burst frequency of 1100 MHz, capable of driving up to three displays. While this GPU was adequate for light multimedia and casual gaming in its day, it falls far short of modern integrated solutions. The processor supports a range of advanced features, including SSE, AVX, AVX2, AES, and AMD-V virtualization, enabling it to run a broad array of software, though it lacks some of the more recent optimizations found in current CPUs.

In benchmark testing, the A10-6790K scores 4554 overall, placing it at #1231 among 2060 processors. Its single-core performance is slightly stronger, achieving a score of 4574 and ranking #1232, while its multicore score of 4524 lands it at #1186. These results place it below many modern entry-level and mid-tier CPUs, including the Core i3-2105 and Athlon X4 845, but above several low-power Intel and AMD models like the Core m7-6Y75 and Pentium 4417U. In the top 50 rankings, the A10-6790K is outperformed by over 40 processors in both single-core and multicore categories, with the highest-performing systems exceeding its score by more than 8,000 points.

The A10-6790K’s performance is most competitive against early 2010s mobile and desktop processors, such as the Core i5-5287U and Xeon E3-1235. While its single-core and overall scores are comparable to some of these, its multicore performance is notably weaker, suggesting it is better suited for tasks that do not require heavy parallel processing. The processor’s lack of modern instruction sets and limited cache hierarchy further reduce its appeal for contemporary workloads.

In conclusion, the A10-6790K is best suited for legacy systems, basic office tasks, or as a low-cost upgrade in systems where integrated graphics are sufficient. Its age and performance profile make it unsuitable for demanding applications such as video editing, gaming, or virtualization. For users seeking modern performance, the A10-6790K serves as a reminder of how far CPU technology has advanced over the past decade.
