The ongoing memory crisis has led to an unexpected shift in PC component sales at German online retailer Mindfactory, where DDR4-compatible motherboards accounted for more than a third of total sales in the past week. Driven by the high prices of DDR5 memory, many customers have opted for the older, more affordable DDR4 standard, sparking a resurgence of the AM4 platform, which traditionally pairs with AMD's Ryzen processors. This trend has resulted in five of the top ten best-selling CPUs being Ryzen models for AM4, underscoring a strong consumer preference for cost-effective builds despite the availability of newer technologies. AMD continues to dominate the market with a 90 percent share, while Intel remains in the background, highlighting a growing reliance on AMD's established ecosystem. The situation illustrates how pricing and availability of memory components can significantly influence consumer behavior, even when more advanced options are available.
