At this year's Computex Taipei, leading storage manufacturers QNAP and Asustor unveiled new products designed to meet the growing demands for speed and flexibility in Network Attached Storage (NAS). Both companies are addressing the increasing need for high-performance infrastructure for home users and small-to-medium-sized enterprises that require robust local data storage and processing capabilities.
QNAP concentrated its efforts on two specific devices: the QuTS hero-based TS-h265 NAS and the TR-005 Direct Attached Storage (DAS). The TS-h265 features a hybrid architecture, combining two 3.5-inch bays for mechanical hard drives with two M.2 slots for NVMe solid-state drives. This design allows users to create highly flexible storage configurations tailored to their specific performance needs. Additionally, QNAP introduced the TR-005, a five-bay DAS unit that connects via USB-C and includes hardware RAID features to ensure data security and optimal transfer speeds.
Meanwhile, Asustor expanded its portfolio with devices powered by AMD Ryzen processors. The debut of the Flashstor 6 Gen 3 and the Lockerstor NAS highlights the industry trend toward integrating greater computing power directly into storage systems. By leveraging the Ryzen architecture, these new models promise enhanced processing capabilities for resource-intensive tasks such as video editing or virtualization, distinguishing them significantly from traditional storage solutions.
