3mdeb Making Progress on First Coreboot Port for AMD Ryzen AM5: MSI PRO B850-P Aims to Revolutionize Open Firmware

A major milestone in open-source firmware development is underway as 3mdeb works on the first Coreboot port for an AMD Ryzen AM5 motherboard, specifically targeting the MSI PRO B850-P WiFi. Led by 3mdeb, this project integrates AMD’s openSIL, a cutting-edge open-source firmware component, to deliver a fully open firmware experience. The MSI PRO B850-P WiFi is designed for Linux and open-source enthusiasts who prioritize transparency and control over their systems. By leveraging Coreboot and openSIL, the project aims to eliminate reliance on proprietary firmware, marking a significant advancement for the open-source community. Although the effort is still in development, 3mdeb plans to submit the changes to the main Coreboot repository once stable. The full open-source firmware stack is expected to be released this year, representing a crucial step toward a fully transparent and user-controlled hardware ecosystem.
