Xeon E-2378 Details

Ranked #236 in overall performance among 2060 processors, the Intel Xeon E-2378 delivers a balanced mix of single-core and multi-core capabilities, though it trails significantly behind the top-tier CPUs in the industry. As of March 2026, this server/workstation processor, launched in September 2021, remains relevant in niche professional environments due to its ECC memory support and robust virtualization features. Despite being over four years old, it holds its own in multi-threaded workloads, particularly when compared to mainstream consumer chips.

The Xeon E-2378 is built on Intel’s Rocket Lake-E architecture and fabricated on a 14 nm process node, using the FC-LGA1200 socket. With eight cores and 16 threads enabled via Hyper-Threading, it offers strong multithreaded performance for its generation. Base clock is 2.6 GHz, with a turbo frequency reaching 4.8 GHz, enabling it to handle bursty workloads efficiently. It includes a substantial 15.259 MiB L3 cache, which contributes to its strong performance in data-intensive applications. Memory support includes dual-channel DDR4 up to 3200 MT/s, with a memory bandwidth of 51.2 GB/s, and the processor supports up to 128 GB of ECC-capable RAM, making it suitable for server and workstation use cases.

In benchmark testing, the Xeon E-2378 achieves a single-core score of 6345, placing it at #160 in the single-core rankings—just behind the Core i5-12400F and Ryzen 3 7440U, but ahead of the Xeon E-2224G and Core Ultra 5 134U. Its multicore performance, however, is more impressive, scoring 5563 and ranking #372 overall, outperforming several high-end Xeon and Ryzen models such as the Ryzen 7 PRO 5750GE and Core Ultra 7 165U. This indicates that the processor’s strength lies in its ability to scale across multiple cores, making it ideal for virtualization, rendering, and scientific computing.

The Xeon E-2378 lacks integrated graphics, requiring a discrete GPU for visual output, which is common for server-oriented CPUs. However, it supports a wide array of instruction sets, including AVX, AVX2, and AVX-512, along with advanced virtualization technologies like Intel VT-x, VT-d, and TXT. These features, combined with ECC memory and support for up to 20 PCIe 4.0 lanes directly from the CPU, make it a reliable choice for mission-critical systems. Despite its age, the Xeon E-2378 remains a capable mid-tier server processor for workstations and entry-level servers, especially where ECC and virtualization are essential.
