Xeon E-2336 Details

Built on Intel's Rocket Lake-E architecture and fabricated on a 14 nm process, the Xeon E-2336 is a server and workstation-oriented CPU that was launched in September 2021. While this places it nearly five years after the current date of March 2026, it remains relevant in niche professional environments where ECC memory support and virtualization capabilities are critical. The processor is designed for Socket 1200 systems and features a 65 W TDP, making it efficient for workstations where power consumption and thermal management are important considerations.

The Xeon E-2336 is equipped with six cores and supports Hyper-Threading, delivering 12 threads for enhanced multitasking and parallel workloads. It operates at a base frequency of 2.9 GHz, with a turbo frequency reaching up to 4.8 GHz, allowing it to handle demanding applications efficiently. It includes 0.076 MiB of L1 cache, 0.488 MiB of L2 cache, and a substantial 11.444 MiB of L3 cache, which significantly aids in reducing memory latency and improving performance in data-intensive tasks.

Memory support includes DDR4 with a dual-channel interface, capable of running at up to 3200 MT/s, and the processor supports ECC memory, which is essential for error-free operation in mission-critical systems. It also features Intel’s VT-x and VT-d virtualization technologies, along with IOMMU support, enabling robust virtual machine performance and direct hardware access for guest operating systems. Additionally, it supports advanced instruction sets such as AVX, AVX2, and AVX-512, making it suitable for scientific computing, encoding, and AI workloads.

Despite its capabilities, the Xeon E-2336 lacks integrated graphics, requiring a discrete GPU for visual output. The processor does not support overclocking due to its locked multiplier, which limits its appeal to enthusiasts but aligns with its target market of stability and reliability. It also includes a range of security and management features, such as Intel vPro, TXT, and SHA extensions, which are valuable in enterprise environments.

In benchmark testing, the Xeon E-2336 scores 6,027 overall, ranking #241 among 2,060 processors, with a single-core score of 6,371 (#148) and a multicore score of 5,512 (#397). These results place it above many mainstream desktop CPUs, including the Core Ultra 5 125U and the Xeon E5-2618L v4, but behind higher-end models like the Xeon E-2378 and Ryzen Threadripper 1920X. Its single-core performance is particularly strong, outperforming several current-gen Intel and AMD processors, indicating that it excels in applications that rely heavily on per-core speed.

As of March 2026, the Xeon E-2336 is best suited for entry-level servers, workstations, and virtualization environments where ECC memory, virtualization, and reliability are more important than raw gaming or content creation performance. While it is no longer a top-tier performer in the broader CPU landscape, its combination of single-core efficiency, virtualization support, and ECC memory makes it a viable choice for professional use cases that demand stability and long-term support.
