Celeron N2830 Details

For users seeking a low-power, budget-friendly mobile processor for basic computing tasks, the Intel Celeron N2830 remains a viable option despite its age. Launched in February 2014, this dual-core processor built on the 22 nm Bay Trail-M architecture is designed for entry-level mobile devices such as netbooks and ultra-portable systems. While it is now over a decade old, its extremely low 7.5 W TDP makes it suitable for systems where power efficiency is prioritized over performance.

The Celeron N2830 features two cores and two threads, operating at a base frequency of 2.16 GHz with a turbo frequency of 1.86 GHz. It includes 0.053 MiB of L1 cache and 0.488 MiB of L2 cache per core, along with support for DDR3L 1333 memory across two channels, enabling a maximum memory bandwidth of 12.8 GB/s. The processor uses the FC-BGA1170 socket and supports PCIe 2.0 with up to four lanes. It also integrates Intel HD Graphics, which runs at a base frequency of 313 MHz and can boost to 750 MHz, supporting up to two displays.

In terms of performance, the Celeron N2830 scores 3939 in the overall Passmark benchmark, ranking #1935 out of 2060 processors. Its single-core score of 3735 places it at #1926, while its multicore score of 4246 lands it at #1917. These results place it behind slightly older and less capable processors like the Core 2 Duo L9400 and the Atom D2500, indicating that it offers only marginal improvements over predecessors from the same era. Despite this, it still outperforms some modern low-power chips like the Celeron N3050 and E2-3800 in certain workloads.

The processor supports a wide range of instruction sets, including SSE, AVX2, AES, and virtualization technologies such as VT-x and VT-d. It also includes features like EIST for power management and TXT for enhanced security. However, it lacks support for modern instruction sets such as SSE4, which limits its compatibility with newer software and games.

As of March 2026, the Intel Celeron N2830 is best suited for light productivity tasks, web browsing, and media playback in low-power systems. It is not ideal for multitasking, content creation, or gaming, where more modern processors offer significantly better performance. While its efficiency and low cost may still appeal to users with minimal computing needs, it is no longer competitive in the broader processor landscape.
