Celeron G3950 Details

As of March 2026, the Intel Celeron G3950 remains a budget-oriented desktop processor, launched in early 2017 as part of Intel's Kaby Lake lineup. Despite its age, it holds a position in the lower tier of the overall performance hierarchy, ranking #1022 out of 2060 processors based on its overall Passmark score of 4799. This places it well behind modern high-end CPUs, which dominate the top 50 lists with scores exceeding 7000, but it still holds ground against other entry-level and older processors.

The Celeron G3950 features a dual-core, dual-thread design with a base clock of 3.0 GHz and a locked multiplier, meaning no overclocking is possible. Built on Intel’s 14 nm process and using the Kaby Lake microarchitecture, it supports DDR4-2133 and DDR3L-1600 memory via a dual-channel interface. The processor has 2 MB of L3 cache and a modest 51 W TDP, making it suitable for low-power systems and basic computing tasks. It uses the LGA-1151 socket, ensuring compatibility with a range of older motherboards.

Integrated graphics are provided by the Intel HD 610, which features 12 execution units and a maximum frequency of 1050 MHz. While not designed for gaming or heavy graphical workloads, it supports up to three displays and can handle basic multimedia playback. The GPU is paired with a maximum of 64 GiB of system memory, though actual performance is limited by its low compute capability.

In benchmark testing, the Celeron G3950 achieves a single-core score of 5062, placing it at #904 in single-core rankings, and a multicore score of 4405, ranking #1440. This indicates that while it performs reasonably well in single-threaded applications, its lack of multi-core scaling significantly limits its overall productivity. It is outperformed by several modern budget and mid-range CPUs, including the Celeron J4125 and Core i5-3550, but still manages to edge out older processors like the Core i5-4430 and Core i3-4150.

The processor supports a range of Intel technologies, including AES-NI, AVX2, and virtualization features like VT-x and VT-d, which enhance security and virtual machine performance. However, it lacks Hyper-Threading, which limits its ability to handle concurrent workloads. While not a competitive option in today’s market, the Celeron G3950 remains a viable choice for light office use, web browsing, and entry-level systems where cost and power efficiency are prioritized over raw performance.
