Xeon Gold 6346 Details

Ranking #224 of 2060 in overall performance, the Intel Xeon Gold 6346 presents a compelling case for server and workstation workloads where sustained multi-threaded performance is paramount. Launched in April 2021, this processor is built on Intel's 10 nm Ice Lake-SP architecture and is designed for high-end server environments. As of March 2026, it is considered a mature, albeit still relevant, part of the Xeon Gold lineup, with its performance firmly established in the server tier.

The Xeon Gold 6346 features 16 cores and 32 threads, thanks to Intel's Hyper-Threading technology, which allows it to handle a wide array of concurrent tasks efficiently. It operates at a base frequency of 3.1 GHz and can boost up to 3.6 GHz, providing a significant performance uplift during peak loads. The processor is manufactured on a 10 nm process and is packaged in the FC-LGA4189 socket, designed for scalability with up to two CPUs in a Symmetric Multi-Processing (SMP) configuration. This makes it ideal for high-density computing environments where multi-socket systems are common.

In terms of memory, the Xeon Gold 6346 supports up to 204.8 GB/s of bandwidth through an eight-channel DDR4 memory interface, with official support for memory speeds up to 3200 MT/s. ECC memory is supported, which is critical for mission-critical applications to prevent data corruption. The processor also supports up to 64 PCIe 4.0 lanes directly from the CPU, enabling high-speed connections to storage and accelerators.

The Xeon Gold 6346 does not include integrated graphics, which is typical for server-focused processors, requiring a discrete GPU for visual output. It supports a wide range of enterprise-level features, including Intel vPro, VT-x, VT-d, and Intel TXT for hardware virtualization and security. Additionally, it supports advanced instruction sets such as AVX-512, AVX2, and FMA3, which are crucial for scientific computing, data analytics, and AI workloads.

In benchmark testing, the Xeon Gold 6346 achieves a Singlecore Score of 5702, placing it at #417, and a Multicore Score of 6634, ranking it #140. Its Overall Score of 6075 positions it at #224 in the broader ranking. While it is outpaced by newer high-end desktop and server processors, it holds its own against other server-class CPUs like the Xeon W-3245 and Ryzen 7 7800X3D. Its strongest performance lies in multi-threaded tasks, as evidenced by its top-140 ranking in multicore scores, but it is less competitive in single-threaded performance compared to the latest consumer-grade CPUs.

Given its TDP of 205 W and lack of integrated graphics, the Xeon Gold 6346 is best suited for data centers, virtualization environments, and professional workstations where power and cooling infrastructure can support it. Its robust feature set and multi-core performance make it a reliable choice for demanding computational tasks, even as newer generations of processors continue to emerge.
