Xeon E3-1235L v5 Details

As of March 2026, the Intel Xeon E3-1235L v5 remains a niche server processor, originally launched in October 2015 as part of Intel’s Skylake-DT lineup. Though now over eight years old, its low-power design and integrated graphics make it a viable option for lightweight server workloads, embedded systems, and compact workstations where energy efficiency is critical. With a 25 W TDP and a 14 nm manufacturing process, the chip emphasizes thermal efficiency over raw performance, making it suitable for systems with limited cooling or power budgets.

The Xeon E3-1235L v5 features four cores and four threads, operating at a base frequency of 2.0 GHz with a turbo boost up to 3.0 GHz. It supports DDR3L-1600 and DDR4-2133 memory in dual-channel mode, with a maximum capacity of 64 GB and memory bandwidth reaching up to 34.1 GB/s. The processor includes 8 MB of L3 cache and 1 MB of L2 cache, along with 0.125 MB of L1 cache per core. It is built on Intel’s Skylake microarchitecture and uses the LGA-1151 socket, compatible with the Sunrise Point chipset.

Integrated into the processor is the Intel HD Graphics P530, which offers 24 execution units and a maximum frequency of 1.15 GHz, capable of driving up to three displays simultaneously. This GPU supports hardware-accelerated video decoding and basic graphics processing, allowing the system to operate without a discrete GPU in non-intensive visual environments.

The Xeon E3-1235L v5 supports a wide range of enterprise-grade features, including ECC memory, Intel VT-x and VT-d virtualization, Intel vPro technology, and advanced encryption instructions such as AES-NI and AVX2. It also includes Intel’s Enhanced SpeedStep and Turbo Boost 2.0 technologies, enabling dynamic frequency scaling based on workload demands.

In benchmark testing, the processor achieves an overall score of 4922, ranking #932 out of 2060 processors. Its single-core performance scores 5105, placing it at #876, while its multicore score is 4648, ranking #1034. These results indicate that the chip performs comparably to mid-tier desktop CPUs from its era but falls well behind modern processors in both single- and multi-threaded workloads. It competes with CPUs like the Core i5-6500TE and Xeon E5-1607 v4, but is outpaced by contemporary offerings such as the Ryzen 5 3500U and Core i3-6100T.

While the Xeon E3-1235L v5 is no longer competitive in high-performance computing or gaming, its low power consumption, integrated graphics, and server-grade reliability make it a practical choice for legacy systems, small-scale servers, and embedded applications where cost, power efficiency, and long-term stability are more important than peak performance.
