Core 2 Duo T8300 Details

The Intel Core 2 Duo T8300, launched in January 2008, represents a significant step in mobile computing from its predecessor, offering improved efficiency and performance through Intel's Penryn microarchitecture. Built on a 45 nm process, this processor marked a transition from the older 65 nm technology, enabling better power management and reduced heat output—critical for laptops at the time. With a TDP of just 35 W, the T8300 delivered desktop-like performance while maintaining acceptable thermal behavior, making it a popular choice for mainstream mobile systems. Although it is now over 15 years old, its design laid the groundwork for future Intel mobile processors, particularly in the Core 2 Duo series.

The processor features two cores, a base clock of 2.4 GHz, and a turbo frequency of 2.3 GHz, which, while modest by today's standards, was competitive in its era. It also supports dual-channel DDR3L 1333 memory, allowing for a maximum bandwidth of 21.32 GB/s and up to 8 GB of RAM, enhancing multitasking capabilities. The integrated Intel HD Graphics provide basic display support, capable of driving two monitors at up to 896 MHz, though it lacks dedicated GPU power. On the feature side, the T8300 includes a range of Intel extensions such as SSE4.1, SSE4.2, AES-NI, and VT-x, which improved multimedia performance and virtualization support.

Its 274 million transistors and 81 mm² die size reflect the complexity of the Penryn architecture, which improved upon the earlier Merom design. Despite its age, the T8300 holds its own in historical benchmarks, scoring 4170 overall, placing it at #1716 among 2060 CPUs. Its single-core performance of 4110 ranks at #1670, while its multicore score of 4259 places it at #1876. These results indicate that while the T8300 was capable for its time, it now trails far behind modern processors, especially when compared to top-tier CPUs like the Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9995WX or Core Ultra 9 285K, which exceed 8,000 in overall score.

In conclusion, the Core 2 Duo T8300 remains a testament to Intel's engineering in the late 2000s, suitable today only for legacy systems or educational purposes. As of March 2026, it is no longer relevant for performance-intensive tasks but retains historical significance in the evolution of mobile computing.
