FX-8320E Details

Built on AMD's Vishera architecture and manufactured on a 32 nm process, the FX-8320E is a desktop processor that was launched in September 2014. While it was once positioned as a high-core-count option for mainstream users, its age is now evident—nearly a decade after release, it no longer competes with modern CPUs in performance or efficiency. Designed for the AM3+ socket, the FX-8320E features eight cores and four threads, a configuration that reflects the era’s focus on core count over single-threaded performance. Despite its multi-core orientation, the processor operates at a base frequency of 2.4 GHz with a turbo frequency of 3.0 GHz, a modest uplift that fails to keep pace with current standards. It is packaged in a µPGA form factor with a TDP of 95 W, requiring adequate cooling to maintain stability under load.

The FX-8320E supports dual-channel DDR3L memory with speeds up to 1866 MT/s, offering 25.6 GB/s of theoretical bandwidth. It includes 8 MB of L3 cache and supports PCIe 2.0, enabling connectivity to modern peripherals. While the processor lacks integrated graphics, certain motherboards with compatible chipsets can provide this functionality through the HD Graphics 5500 GPU, which operates at 300 MHz base frequency and can burst to 950 MHz. The chip supports a range of instruction sets, including AVX, SSE4.2, AES-NI, and AMD-V, making it suitable for virtualization and multimedia workloads.

In benchmark testing, the FX-8320E achieves an Overall Score of 4986, placing it at #884 out of 2060 processors. Its Singlecore Score of 5235 ranks it at #775, indicating relatively strong single-thread performance for its generation. However, its Multicore Score of 4612 places it at #1071, showing that while it holds its own against some older quad-core CPUs, it is significantly outpaced by modern multi-core designs. The performance gap to the top-ranked processors—many of which exceed 12,000 in multicore scores—illustrates the processor’s obsolescence in today’s computing landscape.

Despite its outdated architecture and limited relevance in current markets, the FX-8320E remains a viable option for legacy systems or budget builds where integrated graphics and basic multitasking are sufficient. As of March 2026, it serves more as a nostalgic artifact than a practical choice for performance-oriented users, with its high TDP and lack of modern features making it less competitive compared to even mid-tier CPUs released in the past few years.
