C-50 Details

The AMD C-50, launched in January 2011, is a mobile processor built on the 45 nm process and based on AMD's Ontario microarchitecture. Designed for low-power notebooks, it features a dual-core configuration with a base clock of 1.8 GHz and a turbo frequency of 1.86 GHz, operating at a modest 13 W TDP. Despite its age, the C-50 remains notable for its integrated Radeon HD 6250 graphics, which supports up to two displays and operates at a base frequency of 533 MHz, peaking at 756 MHz during bursts. The processor supports DDR3 800 and DDR2 667/800 memory via a single-channel interface, with a maximum memory capacity of 4 GB and bandwidth of 6.4 GB/s. It uses the FCBGA559 socket and includes 0.061 MiB of L1 cache and 0.488 MiB of L2 cache per core, totaling 1 MiB of L2 cache across both cores. The CPU also supports a range of x86-64 instruction sets, including AVX, SSE4.1/4.2, AES-NI, and AMD-V virtualization, although it lacks simultaneous multithreading, limiting its threading capability to two threads despite a claimed thread count of four.

In terms of performance, the C-50 achieves an Overall Score of 3961, placing it #1920 out of 2060 processors in the Passmark database. Its Singlecore Score of 3792 ranks it #1895, while its Multicore Score of 4214 places it #1994. These results indicate that the C-50 is competitive with older mobile processors like the Intel Atom N450 and the AMD E2-6110 but falls significantly behind modern CPUs. In the top 50 lists, the C-50 is outperformed by nearly every contemporary processor, with the highest-ranking single-core processor, the Core Ultra 9 285K, scoring 8776, more than double the C-50's score. This stark difference highlights the processor's limitations in both single-threaded and multi-threaded workloads.

The C-50's strengths lie in its low power consumption and integrated graphics, making it suitable for basic computing tasks such as web browsing, office applications, and media playback in portable devices. However, its lack of modern features like SMT and its 45 nm process technology limit its ability to handle demanding software or multitasking scenarios. As of March 2026, the C-50 is best suited for legacy systems or low-cost devices where power efficiency and cost are more important than raw performance. Its position in the benchmark rankings suggests that while it was once a viable option for lightweight mobile use, it is now obsolete compared to current-generation processors.
