NVIDIA has significantly boosted the capabilities of its DLSS Frame Generation technology by introducing a new performance mode known as "Preset C." Available through the beta version of the new NVIDIA App (version 11.0.9), this mode utilizes a less computationally intensive AI model for optical flow calculations. According to NVIDIA, this approach enables frame rate increases of up to 35 percent compared to the standard implementation. The mode is designed for both GeForce RTX 40 and RTX 50 series graphics cards, aiming to optimize the calculation time for image interpolation, resulting in significant FPS gains particularly at higher multipliers.
The operation of Preset C is based on a more efficient use of hardware resources. According to recent reports, the new DLSS 4 variant utilizes a dedicated Tensor core for AI model inference. This technical adaptation allows for faster frame generation, although it comes with a slight loss in image quality. Practical tests with the game "Gears of War: E-Day" demonstrated that the mode delivered only minor improvements at low frame generation factors. However, at six-fold frame generation, a significant performance increase of 16 percent was measured, underscoring the preset's suitability for demanding scenarios.
Alongside the introduction of the new performance mode, NVIDIA unveiled an optimized AI model for DLSS 5. This update halves the additional GPU processing time required for Neural Rendering and reduces VRAM requirements by 20 percent. The advanced DLSS 5 technology remains exclusive to the GeForce RTX 5000 series for the time being. Early games to benefit from this update include "Hogwarts Legacy," which will receive the patch on November 5, and "Where Winds Meet," scheduled for release at the end of November.
These initiatives demonstrate NVIDIA's efforts to push the boundaries of graphical performance by introducing new features for its latest GPUs while continuing to optimize existing technologies for older hardware generations. The combination of increased efficiency and targeted hardware utilization provides players with greater flexibility in balancing image quality and frame rates in demanding titles.
