Xeon w7-2495X Details

Built on Intel's Sapphire Rapids architecture and fabricated on a 10 nm process, the Xeon w7-2495X is a high-end server and workstation processor designed for demanding professional workloads. Released in February 2023, it is part of Intel's Xeon W lineup and targets users requiring extreme multi-threaded performance in content creation, simulation, and virtualization environments. With a base clock of 2.5 GHz and a turbo frequency reaching up to 4.8 GHz, the processor leverages Intel Hyper-Threading to deliver 48 threads across its 24 cores, enabling robust parallel processing capabilities. The chip is packaged in the FC-LGA16A socket and requires a Socket 4677 platform, ensuring compatibility with high-end server and workstation motherboards. It also supports ECC memory, a critical feature for data integrity in mission-critical applications, and is built to handle the rigors of continuous operation under heavy load.

The Xeon w7-2495X features a substantial 45 MB of L3 cache, which is split across the cores to improve data access speed and reduce latency in memory-intensive applications. It supports DDR5 memory with a quad-channel memory bus, allowing for a maximum memory bandwidth of 153.6 GB/s and a rated speed of up to 4800 MT/s. The processor includes support for PCIe 5.0, providing 64 lanes directly from the CPU for high-speed storage and expansion devices. It also supports a wide range of instruction sets, including AVX-512, AVX2, SSE, and MMX, making it well-suited for scientific computing, AI training, and media encoding. Despite its powerful capabilities, the Xeon w7-2495X has a thermal design power (TDP) of 225 W, requiring an efficient cooling solution to maintain stability under load.

Performance-wise, the Xeon w7-2495X achieves an overall Passmark score of 6954, placing it at #68 among 2060 processors. Its single-core score of 6568 ranks it at #105, while its multicore score of 7532 lands it at #61. This indicates that while the processor excels in multi-threaded workloads, its single-core performance is slightly less competitive compared to the top-tier CPUs. In the multicore ranking, it trails behind the Xeon w7-2475X and Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7945WX, which score slightly higher, and is outpaced by the Xeon w7-3455 and Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7955WX in physics and data processing benchmarks. However, it still outperforms mainstream desktop CPUs such as the Core i9-13700K and Ryzen 9 7900X3D in multi-threaded tasks.

Notably, the Xeon w7-2495X lacks integrated graphics, making it reliant on a discrete GPU for any visual output. It does, however, support hardware virtualization technologies like Intel VT-x and VT-d, enabling efficient virtual machine performance and direct hardware passthrough via IOMMU. The processor also includes advanced features such as Intel Turbo Boost 2.0, Enhanced SpeedStep, and Intel vPro for enterprise management. With a launch price of $2189, it is positioned as a premium option for professionals and enterprises needing a balance of high core counts, memory bandwidth, and reliability. As of March 2026, the Xeon w7-2495X remains a compelling choice for workstation and server environments where raw compute power and scalability are paramount, though it may be surpassed by newer architectures in both single-core efficiency and overall performance.
