Xeon Gold 6426Y Details

Built on Intel's Sapphire Rapids-SP architecture and fabricated on a 10 nm process, the Xeon Gold 6426Y is a server and workstation processor designed for high-performance computing environments. Launched in January 2023, it remains a relevant option for enterprise workloads despite its relatively high TDP of 185 W, which demands robust cooling solutions. The processor is part of Intel's premium Xeon Gold lineup and is intended for use in multi-socket configurations, supporting up to two CPUs in symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) setups to scale system capacity. With a base clock of 2.5 GHz and a turbo frequency reaching 4.1 GHz, the chip delivers strong performance under sustained workloads, particularly in data-intensive applications.

The Xeon Gold 6426Y features 16 cores and 32 threads, enabled by Intel's Simultaneous Multithreading (SMT) technology, which allows each core to handle two threads simultaneously. This configuration supports parallel processing in virtualized environments and heavy multitasking scenarios. It includes a substantial 37.5 MB L3 cache, with 0.076 MiB of L1 and 1.907 MiB of L2 cache per core, ensuring low-latency access to frequently used data. The processor uses the Socket 4677 platform and supports DDR5 memory with an eight-channel configuration, delivering a memory bandwidth of 307.2 GB/s and a maximum rated speed of 4800 MT/s. ECC memory support is included, which is essential for maintaining data integrity in mission-critical systems.

Despite its powerful core configuration and high clock speeds, the Xeon Gold 6426Y lacks integrated graphics, meaning a discrete GPU is required for any graphical output. It supports a wide range of advanced instruction sets, including AVX, AVX2, and AVX-512, as well as Intel's virtualization technologies such as VT-x and VT-d, which enhance performance in virtual machines and enable I/O passthrough for direct hardware access. Additional features like SHA extensions, FMA3, and Intel's Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 help optimize performance across various workloads.

In benchmark testing, the Xeon Gold 6426Y achieves an overall score of 6288, placing it at #155 among 2060 processors, with a single-core score of 5997 (#271) and a multicore score of 6725 (#125). While its single-core performance is competitive, the multicore score demonstrates stronger scaling, indicating that the processor excels in parallel processing tasks. It outperforms many high-end consumer CPUs in multicore workloads, including the Core i9-12900F and Ryzen AI 9 HX 375, but falls behind top-tier processors like the Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9995WX and Core Ultra 9 285K.

As of March 2026, the Xeon Gold 6426Y remains a strong option for server and workstation applications requiring high core counts, large memory bandwidth, and ECC support. Its performance in multicore and data processing tasks makes it ideal for virtualization, scientific computing, and cloud infrastructure. However, its high power consumption and lack of integrated graphics limit its appeal for general desktop use. For organizations prioritizing scalability and reliability, the Xeon Gold 6426Y continues to be a capable and efficient solution.
