PRO A6-9500 Details

The AMD PRO A6-9500 stands as a mid-tier processor from the Bristol Ridge generation, launched in October 2016, and remains a relevant option for basic desktop computing and integrated graphics use cases. With a release nearly eight years ago, the A6-9500 is now considered a legacy part, but its performance in certain workloads still holds up in entry-level scenarios. Positioned in the desktop market segment, it uses the Socket AM4 platform and is built on AMD's 28 nm process node, fabricated by GlobalFoundries. The chip features a dual-core design without simultaneous multithreading, operating at a base frequency of 3.5 GHz and capable of boosting up to 3.8 GHz under load. It includes 1 MB of L2 cache and supports DDR4 memory at up to 2400 MT/s via a dual-channel interface, delivering a memory bandwidth of 38.4 GB/s. The processor is packaged in µOPGA-1331 and operates at a TDP of 65 W, making it energy-efficient for light-duty systems.

Integrated into the A6-9500 is AMD's Radeon R5 graphics, offering basic visual performance suitable for everyday tasks and light gaming. The GPU includes 128 stream processors and operates at frequencies compatible with its integrated nature, though detailed max frequency and display output numbers are not provided. Despite lacking a discrete GPU, the A6-9500 supports hardware virtualization through AMD-V, which enhances performance in virtualized environments, and includes support for AVX, AVX2, AES, and other instruction sets that improve performance in computation-heavy applications. The processor also supports PCI-Express Gen 3 with 8 lanes directly from the CPU.

In benchmark testing, the A6-9500 achieves an Overall Score of 4505, ranking #1284 out of 2060 CPUs, with a Singlecore Score of 4596 (#1218) and a Multicore Score of 4369 (#1534). These results place it behind more modern processors but ahead of several older dual-core and low-power CPUs such as the Pentium G870 and Core i7-3537U. The single-core performance is particularly competitive, outperforming many entry-level Intel and AMD chips from the same era, though its multicore performance lags behind modern quad-core and higher processors. The A6-9500's benchmark results are most comparable to mid-range desktop processors from 2014 to 2016, such as the Phenom II X6 1090T and Core i7-2630QM.

As of March 2026, the AMD PRO A6-9500 is best suited for budget systems, office work, media playback, and light productivity tasks. While it is no longer competitive with modern high-performance CPUs, its integrated graphics and low power consumption make it a viable option for systems where cost and efficiency are priorities. Its position in the top 1500 of overall performance indicates it remains functional for non-demanding applications, especially in environments where newer hardware is not necessary.
