FX-4350 Details

For desktop users seeking integrated graphics without a discrete GPU, the AMD FX-4350 offers a niche solution from a bygone era of processor design. Launched in April 2013, this four-core CPU is built on AMD's Vishera microarchitecture and is part of the FX lineup, designed for mainstream desktops. While the processor is now over a decade old, its performance metrics still provide insight into the state of consumer computing during the early 2010s. Built on a 45 nm process and fabricated by GlobalFoundries, the FX-4350 features 1.2 billion transistors and a die area of 315 mm². It operates at a base clock of 2.66 GHz with a turbo frequency of 2.93 GHz, supported by a 4.8 GT/s bus speed and a 19.5x clock multiplier. The chip is packaged in FC-PGA and fits into the FCLGA1366 socket, which was common in AMD’s 700, 800, and 900 series chipsets.

The FX-4350 supports DDR3 memory with a dual-channel interface, rated for speeds up to 1866 MT/s, though actual performance is limited by the 3-channel memory configuration and a maximum memory bandwidth of 25.6 GB/s. It can address up to 24 GB of RAM and supports PCIe 2.0 with up to 16 lanes. The processor's 130 W TDP demands robust cooling solutions, making it less suitable for low-power or compact systems. While it lacks integrated graphics, certain motherboards with compatible chipsets can provide basic graphics capabilities through Intel's HD Graphics 2500, which operates at 650 MHz base frequency and can burst to 1.05 GHz.

In terms of features, the FX-4350 supports a broad range of instruction sets including SSE, AVX, AVX2, AES, and AMD-V, enabling it to handle virtualization and encryption workloads. It also includes hardware virtualization support, which enhances performance in virtual machine environments. However, the processor does not support ECC memory, and its locked multiplier limits overclocking potential. Despite its age, the FX-4350’s benchmark scores place it in the middle of the pack among its contemporaries. It achieves an overall score of 4728, ranking #1081 out of 2060 processors, with a single-core score of 4937 (#979) and a multicore score of 4415 (#1418).

Compared to its peers, the FX-4350 performs slightly better than the Core i5-4210M and Ryzen 3 2200U, but trails behind modern processors like the Core i7-4702HQ and Xeon E5-2695 v2. Its single-core performance is relatively strong for its generation, though it falls short of today’s standards. The multicore performance is more modest, indicating that the FX-4350 excels in tasks requiring high clock speeds rather than thread-heavy workloads. As of March 2026, this processor is best suited for legacy systems, retro builds, or as a budget option for basic computing tasks where modern performance is not required.
